EU Development Days

EU Development Days 2011 – Forum for Change?

Time for the 6th Edition of the EU Development Days (EDD), Europe’s most important forum on international development policy. DeHavilland EU will inform you of the key discussions organised by the European Commission and the Polish EU Presidency.

Taking Place in Warsaw, major EU and international stakeholders, including the President of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the Chairman of the National Transition Council of Libya, H.E Mustafa Mohamed Abdul Jalil, will gather to debate the challenges of democracy building and development aid in a time of global crisis.

Agenda For Change

It follows a major reform launched by the European Commission in Mid-October “The Agenda for Change” to refocus development aid – away from emerging powers, such as China and India, towards the least developed countries, in particular those in East Africa. Foreign Ministers are expected to discuss the blueprint in May 2012.

“Differentiation” of EU development aid will mean more funds for countries that will benefit most and new forms of partnership for countries already developing their way up from the perils of poverty.

EUR 96 billion for 2014-2020

As the largest donor in the world, the EU announced a set of new EU External Action Instruments amounting to EUR 96 billion for 2014-2020. DeHavilland EU reported on Commissioner Piebalgs’ four priorities for external action: “democracy, peace, solidarity and poverty reduction”.
