4 December 2017

With 2017 drawing to a close, the Estonian Presidency is moving to the end of its time at the helm, and thoughts are already turning to the Bulgarian Presidency due to run for the first half of 2018.

Look out for DeHavilland EU's special briefing on the new Bulgarian Presidency later this month, featuring everything you need to know about the incoming leaders and their policy programme.

It's also a crucial time in the Brexit negotiations, as anxious businesses seek clarity on the future shape of the relationship between the EU and the departing UK.

What's on the agenda this month

December is expected to be an interesting and particularly active month in the area of health, with the Estonian Presidency holding its formal Health Council on the 7th and the 8th.
Ministers are expected to debate pharmaceutical policy in the EU. The point of focus will be strengthening the balance of the pharmaceutical system at EU and national level.
The Council will also adopt conclusions on digital health and on cross-border aspects of alcohol policy.
In Parliament, ENVI Committee MEPs are to hold their annual exchange of views with European Medicines Agency Executive Director Guido Rasi on the 7th, while the Commission is meanwhile scheduled to present its legislative initiative on Health Technology Assessment on the 12th.
