March Update: Energy and Environment

26 February 2018

Work is beginning behind the scenes as the EU moves towards developing its next Multiannual Financial Framework - the all-important regulatory structure determining annual financial allocations.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the key Council meeting that will see member states approve the negotiating brief for the next phase of Brexit talks.

Here, Alexis Thuau, DeHavilland EU's Policy Analyst for Energy and Environment, gives you the lowdown on what to watch out for this March.

What's on the agenda this month

March will see a flurry of trilogue meetings on the Governance, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy dossiers.

The European Parliament will have to wait for the Council to reach its general approach on the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) dossier before trilogues on the remaining parts of the Clean Energy for All Europeans package can start.

On the gas front, while MEPs are expected to adopt their position in the ITRE Committee on the proposal for a revised Gas Directive, progress on the Council side might be quite limited due to split views on this file.
