Trainline is an international digital rail and coach technology platform headquartered in the United Kingdom. It sells train tickets and railcards as well as providing free access to live train times and station information through its website and mobile app. 

The Government relations team at Trainline work alongside the commercial and retail divisions. DeHavilland and Trainline have worked together for many years, covering Government and legislative information and analysis for anything from finance to communications. Trainline use DeHavilland so they can both shape strategy and react to public policy development and events. 

Post-Covid, Trainline are a key player in the push to get people back onto trains. Trainline want to work with the Government to make rail travel more financially accessible and sustainable, and to maximise the contribution of rail travel to the push for net zero.

  1. Real-time delivery
    The Williams-Shapps plan for rail in May was a massive event for the Government relations team at Trainline. The document is 114 pages of policy history and evaluation, from which emerges big proposals for change, such as the creation of Great British Railways to coordinate the sector, integrating rail transport with other modes of transport and various ways to improve the passenger experience. The paper was officially authored by the Secretary of State and Keith Williams the independent rail reviewer and was the culmination of at least three years’ work by a huge team of civil servants in the Department for Transport, including senior external sector advisers. DeHavilland did a good share of the heavy lifting for Trainline’s Government relations team to help them navigate these changes. We provided real-time information and analysis – succinct and comprehensive – on all aspects of the paper, so that Trainline could marshal their reaction and make their voice heard.
  2. Sector knowledge
    We have a deep and broad knowledge of the entire transport sector, not just rail. Trainline uses DeHavilland to gauge what people are saying to gain whole-market understanding. It’s all in the daily transport update. Rail exists alongside competing and complementary modes of transport, and what’s happening elsewhere is highly relevant to the Trainline team. Our sector staff are always on hand to answer questions – big or small. If we don’t know the answer straight away, we’ll say so – and then go digging.
